A confession: photography is not my full-time gig. My nine-to-five as a market researcher revolves around understanding consumer behaviour through analyzing large amounts of data, but to simplify, I’m a storyteller. And over the course of my career, I’ve come to realize how important it is to tell a story in a visually appealing way. A few weeks ago while working on a report a lightbulb went off… I need to do more of this. Through photography. For your business. The stars aligned when Caitlin O’Reilly of Cylinder Studio in Prince Edward County reached out to me to work together after having recently connected through a local styled shoot. When we swapped ideas about how we envisioned this shoot, I knew it would be the start of something new for me. Turns out, it’s something that has lit a creative fire in me.
Branding for your small business goes beyond a logo (obviously), and in our digitally-dominated world it’s so important to grab the attention of potential customers from the moment they land on your homepage, follow you on social media or pick up your business card. Through a photojournalistic approach with some styled elements, the goal is to capture your space, the processes, the materials and the people – each of the elements that make your business authentic.
As your photographer, I’m there to tell the story of your business by leveraging natural light and your setting. This is not your typical editorial or product shoot, as I approach this with a much more natural and organic feeling that best reflects you and your offering. It’s important for me to capture your passion with a balance of candid and styled images, ultimately creating images that will connect and resonate with your customers.
This new concept/offering is a work in progress, so stay tuned for a more official launch of what’s to come. In the meantime, if you’re a maker, a doer, an entrepreneur in Prince Edward County or Durham region and want to connect, give me a shout!
A special thanks to Jonathan and Alex for opening up their spaces to us to use at the House of Falconer – and to Nadia for her exceptional hand modelling xo
